2007 Community Service Projects

Because Yesha Ministries provides free training we feel it is important for the students to give back to the community. Therefore each student is required to complete at least one service project before earning their Blue belt. An additional service project is required prior to testing for their Black Belt. We believe serving our fellow man is one of the essential ingredients to becoming a true martial artist.

Our highlighted projects for this year are:

2nd Quarter – Competition Team
Our Competition Team did a car wash to help raise funds for Regionals and Nationals. They ended up not only raising money for our ministry, but also for the Humane Society which had recently burned down.

1st Quarter – Westside
Westside Students spent an afternoon providing a demonstration and time of ministry to West Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Girl Scouts Self Defense:
Yesha hosted a group of Jacksonville Area Girl Scouts for a four week course on self defense.

Here are the attendees and Moms

The girls warmed up with our normal class to prepare for instruction

West Arlington Black Belt, Yvonne Salis, briefed the girls on how to identify a potential attacker and how to defend themselves

Our students then instructed the Girl Scouts on how to defend themselves against multiple aggressive moves

All of the girls had multiple opportunities to practice their new skills

At the end of the classes the girls observed actual sparring and fighting techniques to help them better understand what it takes to remain safe in a stressful situation
