Yeshá’s Mandarin South (Traditional) is unique!
We are a small taekwondo community in Yeshá Ministries that teaches with a traditional eastern martial arts training style.
What is unique about our school?
We teach students through eastern training approaches. Through this style they will experience key cultural elements as part of the process while growing to know God more.
School Features:
- Memorization and demonstration of Korean terminology for techniques and processes
- Required learning of and participation in Korean, as well as Filipino, formalities and values
- A well-balanced physical curriculum
- Simple and complex self-defense combinations
- Mind and emotional training
- Non-Sport and Sport sparring
- Holistic style of forms training
- Required participation in traditional style physical training drills
- Real pass/fail tests
- No accelerated advancement (either in the form of skipping ranks or reduced time-span)
- Required intellectual exercises (written papers)
- Highly individualized quantitative and qualitative written feedback once every three months for physical performance, as well as written commentary on mental and spiritual state every three months.

About the Senior Instructor:
Your Senior Instructor (Jon Powell) was initially trained by Traditional Korean Grandmaster Joon Yong Kim, 8th Dan, in Kansas. Upon arriving in Jacksonville (2006), he continued his training with Yeshá Ministries’ through Master Spaulding and Grandmaster Coker. Mr. Powell also completed a rigorous 4-year discipleship program with Chi Alpha campus ministries and holds a BA in Communication from Wichita State University.
