Yeshá Munford is a “Pioneer” compared to other Yeshá Locations – we are the first Olympic school sanctioned out of the state of Florida by Yeshá. We are pioneers because we have taken a unique training philosophy from one place and applied its universal principles in another – the great state of Tennessee! We are applying the principles of caring, love, and attention to detail that Yeshá taught in Florida. We share it with success because the foundation is in Christ Jesus himself – Tae Kwon Do is simply the vehicle we use to share His love.
We opened in January, 2009 because Redeeming Grace Lutheran Church grasped Yeshá’s vision of giving something of great value at no month to month cost to the recipient. We believe they support this ministry in many ways because they apply the same principles in their ministry. They provide the space, they involve our students in special events at their church, provide refreshments during and after class, and financially support us. Who could ask for a better place or a group of people who have a stronger “servant” attitude than them? Certainly not us!
Our school is unique in other ways, also. Our students have become a family that learns together, challenges each other, prays together, and has a lot of fun! Our members desire to learn Tae Kwon Do is obvious in every class as they model positive behavior, self discipline, and a willingness to help others. Our students respect each other and their instructors. They take on challenges and have an obvious desire to grow in their physical, mental, and spiritual abilities. They range from 5 to 55 years of age and hold ranks from white belt (new students) to those who most recently tested (July 2009) and attained their green belt.
Our leaders, Lisa Gatto and Carissa Johnson, are both internationally sanctioned 2nd Degree Black Belts by the Kukkiwon (World Olympic Headquarters in Seoul Korea.) They exemplify the three tenants of Yeshá Tae Kwon Do:
- They are able to physically demonstrate Olympic Tae Kwon Do skills at the highest level.
- They are mentally capable and adept at teaching children, adolescents and adults with proven results.
- They are spiritually established in their faith of Christ Jesus and exude a spirit of love that establishes their credibility and commitment to their calling.
