Yesha Ministries: Preparing its Members on all fronts

Robert Johnston's Journey Before Yesha

Meet Yesha Ministries' Oldest Black Belt, Robert Johnston. Robert was born on August 7, 1945, at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Florida. He started public school in Jacksonville but at the age of 15, he and his family moved to New Orleans where he would complete his schooling in 1963.

After graduation, he would go on to join the United States Navy visiting a variety of places like San Diego, Pensacola, Guam, and serving on notable ships such as the USS Bennington. Robert would move back to his hometown of Jacksonville in 1969 and work with an insurance company in the years following.

The Coincidental Path to Yesha

After taking guardianship of his grandson, Robert wanted to get him (6 years old at the time) involved in an activity and chose TaeKwonDo.

In 2011 at the age of 65, Robert would make his debut with Yesha accompanied by his grandson. After a year of attending, his grandson decided to stop but Robert kept going.

" I was impressed with the organization," said Johnston.  He would go on to attend his first yellow belt test later that year and by 2016 has proudly evolved to become a 2nd Dan.

The Thorn(s) in his flesh

In 2017 Tragedy struck as Robert's wife was diagnosed with dementia and In February of 2017, Robert himself was diagnosed with Colon Cancer. Robert was dealt two very big blows this year but he hasn't let that slow him down.

Robert is 72, is in top shape and he gives credit to the obvious physical attributes of working with Yesha, but more importantly the mental and spiritual strength to push through his chemo, fight through his cancer, and help his wife through her struggle.

“I am going through a trial, but I know the Lord is a rock upon which I stand.” Robert shared how he feels that he was brought to Yesha for a reason and Yesha as an organization has helped him in his spiritual journey with the Lord and through the hurdles he is facing in his life currently.

“Yesha brought me closer to the Lord most importantly. I look forward to it, I will continue for as long as I can do it. I love Yesha, I love the organization.”
